PROMOTION REQUIREMENTS

3rd & 2nd kyu - Brown Belt

PUNCHES:

  1. double punch in a front stance
  2. triple punch
  3. reverse punch

BLOCKS:  All blocks performed in a front stance (all blocks followed with a strike):

  1. rising
  2. downward
  3. inside
  4. outside

    All blocks performed in a back stance followed with a reverse punch front stance:
 

  1. rising
  2. downward
  3. inside
  4. outside
  1. knife hand block (back stance), front snap kick, spear hand thrust (front stance)
  2. outside block, elbow strike (straddle stance), back fist, reverse punch
  3. augmented block (back stance)-to- reverse punch (front stance)

KICKS:  Double kicks are performed moving forward and in a front stance on the same leg:

  1. front snap to front thrust
  2. front snap to round house
  3. front snap to side thrust
  4. round house to side thrust
  5. roundhouse to back thrust
  6. side thrust to back thrust

Performed in a straddle stance:

  1. side snap, side thrust

Performed from a stationary position with the leg perched:

  1. front, roundhouse, side, back

(KAMAE) FIGHTING STANCE COMBINATIONS:

  1. lunging reverse punch
  2. Jab, lunge punch
  3. lunge punch, half step, jab
  4. jab (rear leg moving), front snap kick, reverse punch
  5. reverse punch, roundhouse kick, spinning back kick
  6. punch combination
  7. kick combination
  8. punch and kick combination

KATA:

  1. All kata from previous belt promotion
  2. Basai Dai (3rd kyu)
  3. Join (2nd kyu)
  4. Empi (2nd kyu)
  5. Candidates must prepare a kata demonstrating bunkai.
  6. Kata sequences up and down the floor.

OTHER:

(KUMITE) SPARRING - Perform several rounds of jiyyu kumite wearing protective sparring equipment.

SELF DEFENSE - Reasonable proficiency at 5 basic techniques taught during the class.  Must include two take down and grappling techniques and (2) two-on-one techniques.

UKEMI -A knowledge of falling and rolling techniques will be evaluated.

NAGAE - A knowledge of throwing techniques will be evaluated.

QUESTIONS - Candidates will be required to verbally answer questions presented by the panel of judges.

WRITTEN EXAMINATION- A written examination will be administered.

CHARACTER - You will be evaluated for good spirit, a positive attitude, courtesy towards others, fitness, and class participation.  Strong kiai(s) and straight eye focus are a must!
