PROMOTION REQUIREMENTS FOR BLACK BELT
Student Black Belt and Shodan

KIHON:

Punches:

  1. Ren zuki
  2. San zuki

Blocks:

  1. Uke, reverse form
  2. Morote uki (kokutsu dachi), gyaku zuki (zenkutsu dachi)
  3. Juji uke (any dachi), ren zuki (zenkutsu dachi)
  4. Uchi uke, san zuki
  5. Shuto uke, mae geri, shihan nukite, jodan haito uchi
  6. Soto uke, yoko empi uchi, yoko geri kekomi, uraken uchi, gyaku zuki


Strikes:

  1. Any uchi, ren zuki (two different dachis)
  2. Any uchi, gyaku zuki, uke

Combination:

  1. Any uke, gyaku zuki, and uchi
  2. Moving in a circle, any combination of uke, uchi, dachi for 30 seconds 


Kicks:  Any nidan keri (same leg):

  1. 1st being mawashi geri
  2. 1st being mikazuki geri
  3. 2nd being yoko geri kekomi
  4. 2nd being ono geri

Performed on the same leg ( double kicks):

  1. Mae, mawashi
  2. Mae, yoko kekomi
  3. Mawashi, yoko kekomi d. Mawashi, ushiro

Performed from a straddle stance:

  1. Yoko keage, yoko kekomi

Perform five (5) sets of kicks from a perched position

Performed from alternating legs:

  1. Mae, mawashi, yoko, ushiro
  2. Mawashi, mawaru ushiro
  3. Ushiro mawashi, mawashi (stepping in from the shomen ashi)

KAMAE:

  1. Gyaku zuki, step through, gyaku zuki
  2. Gyaku zuki, half step, kazami zuki, gyaku zuki
  3. Oi zuki, half step, uraken uchi
  4. Kazami zuki, oi zuki, gyaku zuki
  5. Gyaku zuki, mawashi geri, step down, gyaku zuki
  6. Oi zuki, switch, gyaku zuki, uchi mikazuki geri, tobi mae geri
  7. Lunging reverse punch, ridge hand strike, spinning back fist, reverse punch to front snap kick
  8. Mae geri, oi gyaku zuki, gyaku zuki, mae geri
  9. Any punch combination
  10. Any kick combination
  11. Any punch and kick combination

KATA:

Required:

  1. Bassai Dai
  2. Jion
  3. Kanku Dai
  4. Hangetsu
  5. Empi
  6. Tekki Nidan


Additional:

  1. Bassai Sho or Kanku Sho


Optional:

  1. Chinte, Jutte, or Gankaku


Gyaku Form:

  1. Any Heian kata


Made Up Kata:

  1. Candidate must choreograph their own kata


Interpretation:

  1. Students must prepare a kata demonstrating the bunkai


BAG WORK:

  1. Combination of punches, kicks and strikes


IPPON KUMITE:

  1. Happo kumite -candidate is in the center of attackers
  2. Ippon kumite -candidate faces a single line of attackers
  3. Double kumite -candidate faces a double line of attackers

KUMITE:

  1. 1-on-1 Shobu Ippon kumite
  2. 1-on-1 kumite with black belts judges


2-on-2 kumite with black belt judges
 

UKEMI WAZA:

  1. Combination of falling techniques

NAGAE WAZA:

  1. Combination of throwing and sweeping techniques

KANSETSU WAZA:

  1. Joint locking techniques


GOSHIN JITSU WAZA:

  1. (4) one-on-one
  2. (2) two-on-one
  3. (2) ground techniques
  4. (2) weapon defenses
  5. (2) submission holds


 

JIYYU GOSHIN JITSU:

  1. Attacks and Grabs from surrounding opponents.


QUESTIONS: 

  1. Candidates will be required to verbally answer questions presented by the panel of judges


WRITTEN EXAMINATION

  1. A written examination will be administered.

CHARACTER - You will be evaluated for good spirit, a positive attitude, courtesy towards others, fitness, and class participation.  Strong kiai(s), a clean heavy weight uniform and straight eye focus are a must!
